For scholars from English-language countries, only unpublished manuscripts will be considered. The prize-winning essay will be translated and published in American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum's scholarly journal. We are pleased to announce an increased and enhanced prize award this year: the winner will receive a $1,000 cash award and a $2,000 travel stipend to give a presentation in Washington, D.C., and meet with museum staff and fellows.
